REMEMBER
Honoring Bob Weir (1947-2026)
Yesterday, we lost Bob Weir — co-founder of the Grateful Dead, architect of the jam band movement, and one of the most important figures in the history of psychedelic culture.
For six decades, Weir helped create the soundtrack to expanded consciousness. From the legendary Acid Tests of the 1960s to his final performances at Golden Gate Park last summer, he embodied the spirit of exploration, community, and musical adventure that defines so much of what we celebrate at Portal.
As his family wrote: "There is no final curtain here, not really. Only the sense of someone setting off again." He often spoke of a 300-year legacy — determined to ensure the songbook would endure long after him. May that dream live on through future generations of Deadheads, and through all of us who believe in the power of music and consciousness to bring people together.
Rest easy, Bobby.

New Bill Would Create VA Psychedelic Research Centers
A sweeping new bill led by three veteran lawmakers would establish five VA research centers to study ketamine, psilocybin, MDMA, and ibogaine for treating PTSD, chronic pain, addiction, and more. A public forum at the U.S. Capitol is set for January 14th. Read more
DEA Boosts Psychedelics Research Quotas for 2026
The DEA has finalized increased production quotas for psilocybin (up to 50,000 grams), psilocyn (80,000 grams), and DMT (25,000 grams) — enabling more research into their potential for treating PTSD and depression. Read more
VA's First Psychedelic Study Since the 1960s Now Underway
The VA is now enrolling veterans for its first psychedelic-assisted therapy study in over 50 years. Researchers at Brown and Yale will evaluate MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD and alcohol use disorder. Read more
