Your 9/9 Portal Drop

Happy Portal Day.

Two years ago, we gathered in Denver for Portal’s first 9/9 event. We miss those nights together and we’re looking forward to sharing more on the events front soon.

In the meantime, we’re revisiting two moments from that first Portal Day, sharing ways to make your voice heard, and highlighting gatherings near you.

DESTIGMATIZE

At Portal on 9/9/24, Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers spoke about his experience with ketamine and how it helped him approach making an album without feeling trapped in his head.

EDUCATE

What Oregon’s psilocybin program is teaching us

A new study followed 346 adults across 24 licensed psilocybin service centers in Oregon. Participants reported improvements in depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, and well-being over three months.

These are encouraging real-world findings. The study had no comparison group, and some participants experienced harms, so it cannot establish that psilocybin caused the improvements.

Tell the FDA psychedelic therapy matters

Promising research is only part of the picture. A new report from the Center for Health Care Strategies explains why approval and insurance coverage alone will not ensure access: affordable care, trained providers, and workable treatment models matter too. Read the report.

On September 14, the FDA will hear perspectives on the potential future therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs. Written comments are open until October 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Use our guide to share why safe, affordable psychedelic care matters to you. You can speak to cost, the need for trained providers, or the importance of including underserved people as future treatments are considered. Already sent your comment? Share the guide with someone who wants to take part.

Want to listen in? September 14, 12:30–4:30 p.m. ET. See the FDA’s hearing details.

GET INVOLVED

Protect the roots of the medicines

As the World Ayahuasca Forum gathers in Girona on September 11–13, Indigenous leadership and reciprocity are central to the conversation. DoubleBlind’s recent coverage asks us to consider the people, territories, and traditions behind the medicines.

Meet the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute, an Indigenous-led organization working to regenerate and preserve the Amazon rainforest while sustaining traditional knowledge. Learning about and supporting this work is one way to give back.
